Ex-GitHub CEO Secures $60M Seed Funding for Dev Tools at $300M Valuation

Ex-GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke has successfully secured $60 million in seed funding for his new startup, Entire, achieving a noteworthy valuation of $300 million. Backed by prominent investors, including Felicis, this funding marks one of the largest seed rounds in the developer tools sector.

Entire is focused on addressing the complexities faced by developers in managing AI-generated code through an innovative open-source tool. This solution includes three critical components: a Git-compatible database designed to consolidate AI-produced code, a universal semantic reasoning layer that enables collaboration among multiple AI agents, and an AI-native user interface aimed at facilitating human-agent interactions.

The startup’s inaugural release, Checkpoints, allows developers to pair each piece of AI-generated software with the specific context that produced it, including prompt details and transcripts. This feature intends to enhance developers’ ability to review, search, and comprehend the underlying reasons for AI outputs.

Dohmke emphasizes the significance of this technology, noting, “We are living through an agent boom, and massive volumes of code are being generated faster than any human could reasonably understand.” He critiques existing software production systems, stating they were never designed to accommodate the rapid expansion brought about by AI technology.

With Entire, Dohmke aims to offer developers a solution to navigate the overwhelming influx of AI-generated code, particularly within popular open-source projects that often struggle with the quality of contributions. Other investors in this funding round include Madrona, M12, Basis Set, and notable figures like Harry Stebbings and Jerry Yang.

In summary, Entire’s innovative tools and substantial funding position it as a key player in the evolving landscape of developer resources, seeking to redefine how software is managed in the age of AI.
