Verizon Communications has announced its acquisition of Starry, a smaller broadband provider known for its innovative high-speed internet solutions, for an undisclosed amount. This strategic move is anticipated to be finalized by the first quarter of 2026, pending approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The acquisition is set to bolster Verizon’s wireless broadband reach across the United States, particularly in challenging urban environments where service coverage is often limited. Starry specializes in delivering high-speed internet to multi-dwelling units (MDUs) and densely populated communities. Utilizing proprietary millimeter wave technology, Starry effectively addresses coverage challenges by deploying nodes in populated areas. These nodes broadcast concentrated radio waves that can be received by users in and around apartment buildings, delivering download speeds that compete with traditional fiber connections—all without requiring wired infrastructure.
