Milestone Raises $10 Million to Enhance AI Development and ROI Measurement

Israeli startup Milestone has secured $10 million in funding to amplify its innovative platform focusing on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) within coding practices and its subsequent return on investment (ROI). The firm aims to bridge the gap in tracking the effectiveness of AI tools used in software development, an area where many companies currently face challenges.

Milestone was founded by Professor Stephen Barrett, a computer science educator at Trinity College Dublin, and CEO Elidan Sidi, who was once his student. Despite living in different countries, they maintained a strong partnership over the years, culminating in their decision to launch a startup centered on enhancing engineering efficiency at a time when AI-powered coding assistants, like GitHub Copilot, are gaining traction among developers.

Elidan highlighted that Milestone gathers vital insights by analyzing four key elements: codebases, project management platforms, team structures, and the AI tools themselves, creating what he calls a “genAI data lake.” This framework enables organizations to scrutinize the usage of AI tools, providing managers with actionable data. They can assess varying aspects, such as the speed of feature delivery and the correlation between AI-generated code and bug occurrences.

Milestone’s platform addresses the pressing need for businesses to understand the ROI related to AI implementations. Elidan noted that they have yet to encounter a client who found their solutions unsatisfactory, with many expressing a desire to explore additional AI options.

As the AI landscape continues to evolve, Milestone is committed to staying current with technological advancements. Its partnerships with recognized vendors like GitHub, Augment Code, Qodo, Continue, and Atlassian—whose investment arm contributed to this funding round—reflect a strategic focus on enterprise solutions. Milestone has deliberately targeted the enterprise sector, even declining smaller clients to maintain its vision.

The investment round also welcomed contributions from prominent angel investors including GitHub co-founder Tom Preston-Werner and former AT&T CEO John Donovan, who recognize the potential impact of Milestone’s offerings within the enterprise market. With a clear focus on enterprise-grade tools, Milestone is poised to carve out a niche in the rapidly changing world of AI-driven software development.

Key Highlights:
– Milestone aims to correlate AI tool usage with engineering success metrics.
– The startup has built a framework dubbed “genAI data lake” for actionable insights.
– Focused on enterprise clients, Milestone declined smaller opportunities to refine its roadmap.
– Major investors support the startup’s vision of revolutionizing the coding landscape with AI.
