Google has made strides in enhancing mobile accessibility to its AI Mode within Chrome for both iOS and Android users. As of Wednesday, the company has introduced a streamlined shortcut button located beneath the search bar on the “New Tab” page. This feature enables users to pose intricate queries and pursue follow-up questions directly in Search, thereby facilitating a more in-depth exploration of topics.
The rollout of this AI Mode shortcut will begin in the United States and is set to expand to 160 additional countries, supporting various languages such as Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese.
By improving access to AI Mode, Google aims to encourage users to prefer its services over rival platforms. This update follows Google’s recent global expansion of AI Mode, which now operates in 180 new countries and additional languages.
Initially launched in March, Google’s AI Mode serves as a competitor to popular AI solutions like Perplexity AI and OpenAI’s ChatGPT Search. Since its inception, Google has consistently enhanced the feature, adding new functionalities and capabilities.
Notably, just yesterday, Google introduced new agentic features that allow users to book event tickets and wellness appointments through AI Mode. This functionality first appeared in August, initially enabling users to make restaurant reservations.
In July, AI Mode debuted a Canvas feature designed to assist users in creating study plans and organizing information across multiple sessions alongside a side panel. Additionally, users can now utilize Google Lens to inquire about items displayed on their desktop screens.
