A pro-Russian hacker collective has claimed responsibility for a significant DDoS attack that incapacitated the French postal service, La Poste, on December 22. The distributed denial-of-service assault rendered the organization’s central computer systems inoperable, leading to substantial disruptions in package deliveries just before the holiday season, according to reports from Reuters.
As of Wednesday morning, La Poste was still grappling with the repercussions of the attack. While regular mail services continued without issues, postal employees encountered difficulties in tracking parcels, and online banking transactions through La Banque Postale, the postal service’s banking arm, were hampered.
This hacker group, identified as Noname057, has been linked to various cyberattacks worldwide, primarily targeting Ukraine and its allies, among other countries. In response to the rising threat, Europol, the European Union’s law enforcement agency, initiated a comprehensive operation against the group over the summer. Additionally, the U.S. Justice Department has undertaken actions aimed at curtailing the activities of Noname057.
Key Points:
– Pro-Russian hacker group claims DDoS attack on La Poste.
– Attack disrupted package deliveries and banking services.
– Ongoing investigations by Europol and U.S. Justice Department into the hacker group.
