Fitbit has unveiled its new Gemini-powered health coach, "Coach," which is set to launch as a public preview for Premium subscribers in the U.S. on Android starting tomorrow, with an expansion to iOS planned later this year. This initiative aims to elevate Fitbit’s appeal amid increasing competition in the AI-driven health tech space.
Google’s Coach feature serves as a multifaceted fitness trainer, sleep advisor, and wellness consultant, leveraging Gemini’s artificial intelligence capabilities. It customizes fitness plans based on individual goals, preferences, and available equipment. For instance, users aiming to enhance their endurance will receive personalized workout plans that are dynamically adjusted in real-time based on performance feedback. Should injuries occur, Coach intelligently modifies routines to accommodate recovery needs.
In addition to exercise guidance, Coach also analyzes sleep patterns, providing valuable insights to improve sleep quality over time.
The updated Fitbit app features a sleek, user-friendly interface organized into four primary sections: Today, Fitness, Sleep, and Health.
- Today Tab: Acts as the app’s central hub, showcasing key metrics such as weekly cardio load and other essential statistics customized by the user.
- Fitness Tab: Contains workout plans and crucial metrics, including cardio goals and average weekly steps. However, some features like nutrition tracking and cycle logging remain unavailable for now.
- Sleep Tab: Offers a summary of sleep patterns with AI-generated insights for enhancing sleep quality.
- Health Tab: Provides quick access to vital health metrics such as breathing rate, blood oxygen levels, and resting heart rate for a comprehensive health overview.
To access the Coach preview, users must have an active Fitbit Premium subscription and a compatible Fitbit smartwatch, fitness tracker, or Pixel Watch.
