Ke Yang, who spearheaded Apple’s initiatives in AI-driven web search, is set to join Meta, as reported by Bloomberg. His exit is the latest in a series of departures from Apple’s AI division, raising concerns as the company gears up for a much-anticipated revamp of Siri scheduled for March. Earlier this year, Ruoming Pang, the former head of Apple’s AI models, also transitioned to Meta, along with approximately a dozen other team members from Apple’s AIML (AI and Machine Learning) group, many of whom are now part of Meta’s new Superintelligence Labs.
Recently, Yang took charge of the Answers, Knowledge, and Information (AKI) team, focused on enhancing Siri’s capabilities to source information from the web, positioning Apple to better compete with rivals like OpenAI, Google, and Perplexity in the AI search landscape. Remaining team members have expressed concerns that further talent losses may occur in the upcoming months.
