WordPress.com Enhances User Experience with New AI Assistant for Design and Editing
WordPress.com, the renowned website hosting service developed by Automattic, has unveiled a new AI assistant aimed at revolutionizing the way users edit and design their sites. Announced on Tuesday, this innovative feature enables site owners to seamlessly modify their website’s layout and content using natural language commands.
With this AI tool, users can manipulate their site’s design by simply issuing commands. For instance, phrases like “make this section feel more modern” or “give me brighter color options” are all actionable requests that the AI can interpret to make real-time changes. These adjustments enhance user experience by allowing for more intuitive site customization without the need for precise, technical prompts.
The AI assistant also supports layout modifications, enabling users to add sections such as “contact pages” or “testimonials” through straightforward instructions. However, it’s important to note that the AI’s functionalities are designed exclusively for block themes; those utilizing classic themes will not have access to the assistant.
Beyond design, the AI assistant serves as an editorial tool, providing features such as headline suggestions, grammar checks, and content rewrites. Users can invoke these capabilities in the block notes editor, introduced in WordPress 6.9, by typing @ai followed by specific requests. The assistant will then respond with relevant insights and external citations to enhance collaboration among team members.
In addition to text editing, the AI utilizes Google Gemini’s Nano Banana models for image creation and editing. This feature is easily accessible through a new “Generate Image” button within the Media Library, allowing users to specify their image preferences, including aspect ratios and styles.
Activation of the WordPress AI Assistant is voluntary. Users interested in utilizing this feature can enable it by navigating to their Sites list, selecting their site name, and adjusting the settings under “AI tools” to toggle the assistant on. Notably, customers who opt for the AI website builder will have this assistant automatically activated.
WordPress.com continues to innovate, making powerful tools like the AI assistant available to enhance user engagement and website design efficiency.
