Todoist Introduces Voice Command for Adding Tasks to To-Do List

Doist, the developer behind the popular Todoist app, has unveiled an innovative voice command feature known as Todoist Ramble, designed to simplify task management for users on the go. This AI-driven capability allows users to dictate their to-dos using natural language, transforming free-form speech into structured tasks with ease.

Todoist Ramble recognizes the challenges of capturing ideas while multitasking, providing a hands-free solution that eliminates the need for typing. Users can activate the feature by tapping the Ramble icon and speaking their tasks aloud. The app responds in real-time, capturing details such as deadlines, priorities, and assignees, while accommodating changes and edits on the fly, allowing for interactive task creation. For example, users can instruct the AI with phrases like “Actually, set that for Thursday,” enhancing the user experience further.

Built on sophisticated language models as part of the Todoist Assist suite, Ramble utilizes Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash Live model via Vertex AI to ensure precise speech recognition and task generation. Importantly, the app guarantees that audio data is not stored or utilized for AI training, ensuring user privacy; the service holds a SOC2 Type II certification for enhanced security.

The emergence of AI tools for task management is becoming increasingly common in various devices. Similar technologies can be found in products like Amazon’s Bee wearable and meeting note-taking gadgets from brands like Plaud. Additionally, new AI-enabled smart rings, such as Sandbar’s Stream ring and Pebble’s upcoming Index 01, aspire to streamline task addition through simple interactions.

Prior to its general release, Ramble underwent beta testing with around 150,000 users, yielding impressive results: an estimated 290,000 sessions were completed within the initial weeks. Task creation success significantly surged, rising from 40% in October to around 62% by December, coinciding with an increase in user upgrades—new users reportedly upgraded at a rate five times higher after using Ramble.

Starting today, Todoist Ramble is accessible to all users on iOS, Android, desktop, and web platforms, supporting 38 languages. While beginner plan users have limited monthly sessions, Pro and Business users can enjoy unlimited access. The feature can be easily utilized via home screen shortcuts on iOS and quick settings tiles on Android.
