Google Enhances Search with AI Mode Conversations from AI Overviews
In a significant move to transform its search functionality, Google has introduced the capability for users to engage in follow-up inquiries directly from AI Overviews. These AI-generated summaries, displayed at the top of search results, now allow for a seamless transition into a conversational format through AI Mode, Google’s advanced tool designed to tackle complex questions.
Alongside this update, Google has designated Gemini 3 as the new default model for AI Overviews worldwide, promising a "best-in-class AI response right on the search results page," as outlined in a recent blog post from the tech leader.
This latest announcement underlines Google’s commitment to evolving search from a static experience into an interactive, AI-driven tool.
"Users come to Search with a diverse range of inquiries—some requiring quick facts, like a sports score or weather update, while others demand a deeper exploration of topics," stated Robby Stein, Vice President of Product for Google Search. "For intricate questions, it is essential to offer a powerful conversational AI experience."
Key features of the updated search experience include:

In addition to this, Google has recently introduced "Personal Intelligence" within AI Mode, enhancing the AI’s ability to deliver personalized responses by accessing user data from Gmail and Google Photos. This feature was initially launched in the Gemini app and aims to create a more tailored experience across Google’s services.
Moreover, Google has expanded AI Overviews to Gmail, enabling users to search their inbox using natural language—helping them gather quick answers without the hassle of traditional keyword searches and sifting through multiple emails. This development was unveiled alongside the introduction of its new AI-driven Inbox feature.
