Founder Introduces $75 AI Smart Ring for Effortless Note Taking

Eric Migicovsky, the visionary behind the Pebble smartwatch, has unveiled an innovative addition to his device portfolio: the Index 01, an AI-powered smart ring priced at $75. Designed for users who frequently need to capture thoughts and reminders quickly, this unique wearable allows for seamless note-taking with a simple press of a button, distinguishing itself from traditional always-on AI devices.

The Index 01 employs voice-to-text technology that operates locally via the Pebble mobile app, ensuring user privacy. Notably, audio recording is activated solely when the ring’s side button is pressed, preventing inadvertent recordings. This targeted gesture emphasizes its role as a practical tool for capturing fleeting thoughts.

Features and Specifications

  • Water Resistance: The stainless steel ring is water-resistant up to 1 meter, suitable for everyday activities like handwashing but should be removed during swimming.
  • Limited Functionality: Unlike fitness trackers, the Index 01 does not monitor health metrics or perform as a social assistant; its purpose lies solely in recording audio notes.
  • Privacy-Centric Design: The device keeps recordings stored on the user’s phone, free from cloud storage and recurring subscription fees.

Migicovsky anticipates that the Index 01 will attract a growing audience interested in voice-note wearables. It competes with other innovations, such as the Stream Ring from Sandbar, which offers both a free and a subscription-based model but starts at $249.

Merging Convenience with Sustainability

Having tested his own ring for three months, Migicovsky emphasizes its role in daily life—helping users retain important ideas without the hassle of recharging. The battery is designed to last for years, supporting up to 14 hours of audio recording. Each recording session can capture up to five minutes of audio, which syncs with your mobile device later. An added advantage is its multilingual capability, supporting over 100 languages.

Customization and Open Source

The smart ring’s open-source software allows for programmable features, including actions triggered by single or double presses, enhancing its versatility. Users can also link it with calendar systems or applications like Notion, while watch integration ensures that recorded notes are easily verifiable.

Beyond Wearable Tech

Migicovsky aims to redefine hardware development with his new venture, Core Devices. Drawing lessons from Pebble’s past, he is committed to sustainability and user-centric design. The company initially launched the Pebble 2 Duo smartwatch and is preparing for the release of the upgraded Pebble Time 2, reflecting a responsible approach to tech innovation.

Orders for the Index 01 will be accepted at the introductory price until March 2026, after which the cost will increase to $99. Available in three finishes—silver, polished gold, and matte black—it accommodates a range of sizes from 6 to 13, compatible with both iOS and Android devices.
