Figma Expands Portfolio with Weavy’s AI Media Generation Technology

Design platform Figma has announced its acquisition of the AI-driven image and video generation company Weavy, which will now operate under the new brand name Figma Weave. This strategic move aims to enhance Figma’s capabilities in media generation within the design industry.

The acquisition will see 20 employees from Weavy join Figma, although the financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed. Founded in 2024 in Tel Aviv, Weavy successfully raised $4 million in a seed funding round in June, supported by Entrée Capital and other notable investors such as Designer Fund, Founder Collective, and Fiverr founder Micha Kaufman.

Initially, Weavy will function as a standalone product, but plans are in place for future integration with the broader Figma Weave brand and Figma’s existing offerings. Weavy’s innovative web tools allow users to harness various AI models and utilize professional editing features, enabling the creation of high-quality images and videos tailored for product mockups and brand styling.

Key capabilities of Weavy’s platform include:

  • Multi-Model Integration: Users can combine multiple AI models for both image and video creation, offering versatility in design.
  • Advanced Editing Tools: Options to modify layer elements, adjust lighting, and modify colors and angles to achieve desired results.
  • Prompt-Driven Outputs: Start with a prompt for image generation, receive multiple model outputs, and refine selections with further prompts for video generation.

Weavy supports various models such as Seedance, Sora, and Veo for video, and Flux, Ideogram, Nano-Banana, and Seedream for image creation.

Figma CEO Dylan Field emphasized the value of Weavy’s "node-based approach," which facilitates extensive control and creativity in AI generation. He noted, “The Weavy team has inspired us with the balance they’ve struck between simplicity, approachability, and power.”

The demand for AI-enhanced design platforms continues to grow, as evidenced by recent acquisitions in the sector. Earlier this month, AI search platform Perplexity took over the team behind the Sequoia-backed design platform Visual Electric, while Krea secured $83 million in funding in April from investors like Bain Capital and a16z.

With this acquisition, Figma aims to solidify its position as a leader in the design technology landscape, enhancing both the creative potential and user experience for designers worldwide.
