The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has granted approval to Logos Space Services, a new competitor to Starlink, to deploy over 4,000 broadband satellites into low Earth orbit by 2035. This significant milestone comes as the company aims to enhance global internet access, particularly for government and enterprise customers, paralleling Starlink’s existing offerings.

Logos Space Services, spearheaded by founder Milo Medin—who previously served as a project manager at NASA and vice president at Google—is gearing up to launch its first satellite by 2027. As part of FCC regulations, the company must successfully deploy 50% of its approved satellites within seven years of the initial authorization. Since its inception in 2023, Logos has been actively gathering investment funds to support its ambitious plans.

The satellite broadband landscape continues to evolve, yet Starlink remains the dominant player, currently operating approximately 9,600 of the over 14,000 satellites in orbit. Notably, SpaceX’s subsidiary has sought FCC permission to launch an additional million satellites, although industry experts anticipate a more conservative approval of around 7,500. According to the European Space Agency, projections indicate that the total number of satellites in orbit could reach as high as 100,000 by 2030.
