Disney+ Set to Launch Short-Form Video Content This Year
In an effort to enhance viewer engagement, Disney has announced plans to introduce short-form video content on Disney+ in the United States, following the growing popularity of platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels. The announcement was made during Disney’s Tech + Data Showcase at CES 2026.
According to a blog post from the company, this new feature aims to create a more personalized viewing experience that will position Disney+ as a daily go-to destination for users. The platform will feature a blend of original short videos, repurposed social media clips, and selected scenes from existing TV shows and movies.
Erin Teague, Executive Vice President of Product Management for Disney Entertainment and ESPN, stated in an interview with Deadline, “We’re definitely looking to incorporate vertical video in ways that resonate with our users’ core behaviors, ensuring a cohesive and engaging experience rather than a disjointed one.”
This initiative comes on the heels of Disney’s recent launch of a personalized vertical video feed within the ESPN app last year. By introducing short-form content, Disney+ aims to appeal to a younger audience that favors quick, easily digestible clips over traditional long-form programming.
Notably, Disney+ isn’t alone in exploring vertical video formats; Netflix has already implemented a similar feature, allowing users to scroll through clips from its original titles.
Key Points:
– Disney+ to introduce short-form video content in 2026.
– Aim to engage younger audiences accustomed to quick clips.
– Incorporation of original content, social media clips, and scenes from existing shows/movies.
– Following a successful vertical video feed launch in the ESPN app last year.
– Disney+ joins Netflix in adopting a vertical video strategy.
