According to a recent report from The Information, Apple is reportedly venturing into the AI wearable market with the development of a unique pin-shaped device. Designed to be worn on clothing, this innovative gadget will feature two cameras and three microphones, signaling Apple’s commitment to integrating artificial intelligence with everyday technology.
Should this wearable become available, it would further emphasize the growing interest in AI hardware. This development coincides with remarks from OpenAI’s Chief Global Affairs Officer, Chris Lehane, who indicated that the company plans to unveil its first AI hardware later this year, potentially in the form of earbuds.
The Apple device is characterized as a slim, circular disc encased in aluminum and glass, with plans for dimensions similar to an AirTag, albeit slightly thicker. Key features include:
– Two cameras: one standard and one wide-angle for versatile photography and videography.
– A physical button for user interaction.
– A speaker for audio output.
– A FitBit-like charging strip located on the back.
While the potential for this AI wearable is significant, consumer acceptance remains uncertain. Notably, two former Apple employees launched Humane AI, which also produced an AI pin featuring integrated microphones and a camera. Unfortunately, that product struggled in the market, leading Humane to close within two years and sell its assets to HP.
As Apple continues to explore the AI landscape, industry observers will be keen to see how this new wearable device is received by consumers and how it compares to existing offerings in an increasingly competitive market.
