Amazon Expands Same-Day Perishable Food Delivery to 1,300 Regions

Amazon has significantly expanded its same-day delivery service for perishable food items to an additional 1,300 cities and towns across the United States, bringing the total to over 2,300 locations. This expansion includes prominent areas such as Boise, Salt Lake City, Fort Collins, Omaha, and Des Moines, allowing more consumers to access fresh groceries quickly.

By 2026, Amazon plans to further broaden its reach, positioning itself as a substantial competitor to services like Instacart and Walmart+. The company first launched this initiative earlier this year, and its success underscores the growing consumer demand for the swift delivery of essentials, including not just perishables like fruits, vegetables, dairy, and meat, but also traditional items such as electronics and books.

To meet this demand, Amazon employs a “specialized temperature-controlled fulfillment network” that ensures the quality of perishable goods. Deliveries are made in insulated bags to maintain freshness. For Amazon Prime members, this service is free on orders over $25, while non-members incur a $13 delivery fee. Recent figures indicate that fresh groceries dominate consumer preferences, with nine out of the ten most-ordered items for quick delivery falling into this category. This trend highlights the increasing desire for convenience and quality in food shopping.
