Spanish Startup Multiverse Computing Introduces Free AI Model to Address Accessibility Challenges

Multiverse Computing, a Spanish startup, is tackling the limitations of large language models with its innovative approach to model compression. The company’s latest offering, CompactifAI, is a compression technology rooted in quantum computing principles, designed to make advanced AI capabilities more accessible for businesses.

As of today, developers can access the HyperNova 60B model, a newly updated version that is now available for free on Hugging Face. This model is part of Multiverse’s strategy to democratize AI technologies, with plans to open-source additional compressed models by 2026 to accommodate diverse applications.

Multiverse boasts that despite its reduced size, the HyperNova 60B model remains nearly as powerful and accurate as its predecessor, OpenAI’s gpt-oss-120B. Priced at just 32GB, the HyperNova 60B model consumes less memory and demonstrates lower latency. The latest iteration, HyperNova 60B 2602, has been enhanced to support tool calling and agentic coding, crucial for applications where inference costs can be significant.

In the competitive landscape, Multiverse claims its HyperNova 60B has surpassed models from prominent firms like Mistral AI, a French decacorn recognized for its Mistral Large 3 model. Both companies, while competing, also share common ground; Multiverse has expanded beyond Spain with offices in the United States, Canada, and various European countries. The startup counts major enterprises among its clients, including Iberdrola, Bosch, and the Bank of Canada.

Although Multiverse’s annual recurring revenue (ARR) is modest compared to OpenAI’s projected $20 billion, it is on par with Mistral, whose ARR has reached over $400 million, fueled by a growing demand for alternatives to U.S. technology. In a recent press release, Multiverse emphasized its commitment to providing “sovereign solutions across the AI stack.”

The geopolitical context has also played a role in Multiverse’s growth, as evidenced by its partnership with the regional government of Aragón and support from the Spanish Agency for Technological Transformation (SETT) during its $215 million Series B funding round last year. With continued backing from the Basque region, Multiverse is positioning itself as a potential leader in the AI sector, on the verge of becoming one of Spain’s first unicorns.
