Uber’s Engineering Team Innovates with AI Leadership Model
Uber Technologies Inc. is not just a ride-hailing and food delivery service; it is evolving into a tech-driven powerhouse, according to CEO Dara Khosrowshahi. In a recent conversation on Steven Barlett’s podcast, “The Diary of a CEO,” Khosrowshahi revealed that the company’s engineers have created an AI chatbot modeled after him, dubbed “Dara AI.” This innovation allows teams to preemptively refine their presentations by interacting with the AI before meeting with Khosrowshahi.
Khosrowshahi stated that, as part of a preparatory process, these teams present their slide decks to the chatbot, enhancing the quality of their final presentations. “By the time something comes to me, there’s been a prep, and the slide deck has been beautifully honed,” he explained.
According to Khosrowshahi, approximately 90% of Uber’s software engineers are integrating AI into their workflows, with about 30% categorized as “power users” who are reimagining the company’s technological framework. “They are manufacturing the bricks that go into the system and are architects thinking about what the system should look like,” he added, emphasizing the transformative impact on productivity.
This significant shift in engineering practices underscores Uber’s commitment to innovation and efficiency, setting a precedent for how technology and human resources can collaboratively shape corporate strategies in the future.
