Claude's App Jumps to Top 10 After Anthropic's AI Super Bowl Ads

Anthropic’s targeted Super Bowl advertisements, featuring humorously dark situations where individuals seek chatbot advice—only to be directed toward unexpected options like “cougar” dating and height-enhancing insoles—have significantly boosted the app’s visibility. Following the campaign, Anthropic’s AI chatbot, Claude, surged to the No. 7 spot in the U.S. App Store, an impressive leap from its previous ranking of No. 41.

Recent statistics from Appfigures highlight that Claude experienced approximately 148,000 downloads in the U.S. across both iOS and Android platforms from Sunday to Tuesday, marking a substantial 32% increase compared to the 112,000 downloads recorded during the preceding three days. This surge equates to a daily average of 49,200 downloads, contrasting sharply with the typical average of 37,400 for that period.

The effective synergy of the Super Bowl ads and the introduction of Claude’s new Opus 4.6 model appears to capture user interest, especially as ChatGPT recently began running ads targeting its free users—an aspect Anthropic’s commercials had explicitly addressed.

Since its initial mobile launch in May 2024, Claude had a slow start, garnering only 157,000 downloads in its first week and not exceeding the No. 55 ranking in the App Store, while ChatGPT swiftly accumulated nearly half a million installs within just five days.

Globally, Claude’s downloads also showed improvement, with worldwide figures rising 15% from Sunday to Tuesday in comparison to the previous Thursday to Saturday, although this increase was notably less than that observed in the U.S. market.

As the competition intensifies in the AI app landscape, Claude’s recent rise emphasizes the impact of strategic marketing combined with product innovation.
