Waymo Unveils Autonomous Ride-Hailing Services in Miami
Waymo has officially launched its fully autonomous ride-hailing service in Miami, expanding its network to one of five cities announced in its recent growth strategy. This development follows the company’s successful operations in cities like Phoenix, Los Angeles, and the San Francisco Bay Area.
As of now, nearly 10,000 residents in Miami have registered for the service, with more invitations being extended to new users continuously over the coming weeks. Initially, the service will cover a 60-square-mile area, including popular neighborhoods such as the Design District and Wynwood, with plans to extend to Miami International Airport shortly.
Waymo began testing its robotaxi services in Miami last November without passengers, enabling the company to identify and adapt to local driving conditions and nuances. The company emphasizes the safety and reliability of its autonomous vehicles, citing a ten-fold decrease in serious injuries related to crashes in areas where they currently operate compared to human drivers.
Following its Miami launch, Waymo plans to expand further into Florida, targeting Orlando next, with ambitions to reach Texas cities San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas by 2026.
