Gemini Unveils Customized Access to Google Apps for Enhanced User Experience
Gemini has launched an innovative feature called “Personal Intelligence,” designed to personalize user interactions by leveraging contextual data from various Google services such as Gmail, Google Photos, Search, and YouTube History. This feature is now available for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the United States. Users must opt-in, as it is disabled by default.
With Personal Intelligence, Google promises a tailored experience, while allowing users to manage which applications contribute to this context. Looking ahead, the company plans to expand the functionality to include more conversational contexts.
However, users should remain aware that this feature may occasionally produce “over-personalization,” mistakenly linking unrelated information. Notably, Google’s approach to personalization doesn’t involve directly training on user data from emails or photos; instead, it focuses on the prompts and responses generated during interactions.
Users are given the option to request a non-personalized response by prompting Gemini to “try again,” along with the ability to delete previous chat histories.
Currently, Personal Intelligence is compatible with the Gemini app on web, Android, and iOS for personal Google accounts. Google also announced that it plans to integrate this feature into Search’s AI Mode and extend availability to more countries and the free tier in the near future.
This development comes amid a broader trend of integrating Gemini across various platforms, including Gmail, smart TVs, and mobile Chrome. Notably, Apple has recently revealed a partnership with Google to enhance Siri AI using Gemini technology. Despite these advancements, AI technology continues to face challenges, including inaccuracies and the occasional generation of misleading content.
