OpenAI Actively Seeks Contractors to Share Past Work for AI Training
OpenAI, in collaboration with training data firm Handshake AI, is reportedly inviting third-party contractors to submit examples of their previous work. This latest initiative, highlighted in a report by Wired, signifies a strategic move among AI companies to source high-quality training data, aiming to enhance their models’ capabilities for automating various white-collar tasks.
As outlined in a company presentation, contractors are encouraged to detail tasks they have undertaken in former roles and provide tangible samples of their “real, on-the-job work.” Acceptable submissions include a variety of file types such as Word documents, PDFs, PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets, images, and code repositories.
To ensure confidentiality, OpenAI instructs contractors to remove any proprietary or personally identifiable information prior to submission, recommending the use of its ChatGPT “Superstar Scrubbing” tool for this purpose.
However, intellectual property lawyer Evan Brown warns that this practice carries significant risks, emphasizing the trust required from contractors to determine what data remains confidential. Despite inquiries, an OpenAI representative chose not to comment on the matter.
