In a revealing interview with Vanity Fair, Kim Kardashian, who is currently pursuing a legal education, candidly shared her tumultuous relationship with AI chatbot ChatGPT, referring to it as a “frenemy.” Kardashian disclosed that she has encountered significant setbacks in her law studies due to ChatGPT’s inaccurate responses, which have led her to fail exams.
“I use ChatGPT for legal advice when I’m unsure about a question, but it often gives me wrong information,” she explained. “I’ve failed tests because of its mistakes, and I find myself frustrated, saying, ‘You made me fail!’”
Experts point out that ChatGPT, an advanced language model, is susceptible to generating false information—often referred to as “hallucinations.” Unlike traditional knowledge databases, ChatGPT does not inherently distinguish between correct and incorrect information; it generates responses based on patterns from vast amounts of data, which can sometimes lead to misleading answers. This issue has led some legal professionals to face penalties for relying on the model for drafting legal documents, as the AI may reference fictitious legal cases.
Kardashian further illustrated her struggles with the AI by describing her attempts to engage it on a more emotional level when disappointed by its advice. “I talk to it and ask, ‘How does it feel to make me fail?’” she stated. The chatbot’s response, “This is just teaching you to trust your own instincts,” underscores its lack of emotional understanding.
While ChatGPT may operate without emotions, Kardashian’s candid remarks reveal that users often form strong feelings about their interactions with the technology. “I frequently screenshot our conversations and share them with my group chat, saying things like, ‘Can you believe this is how it’s talking to me?’”
As AI technology like ChatGPT continues to evolve, its impact on user experiences—especially in critical fields such as law—remains a significant conversation point in both popular media and professional circles.
