Meta Launches Short-Form AI Video Feed Across Europe

Meta has officially rolled out Vibes, its innovative short-form video feature populated entirely by AI-generated content, across Europe. This announcement, made on Thursday, follows the initial U.S. launch six weeks prior, positioning Vibes as a competitor to popular platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels.

The Vibes feed allows users to create and share engaging AI-generated videos, with a personalized experience that evolves over time based on individual preferences. Users can generate videos using easy prompts, remix existing content, and enhance visuals or music to reflect their unique styles.

According to a recent blog post from Meta, “This is an inherently social and collaborative creation experience, where you’re encouraged to remix, co-create, and build stories together with friends.” Additionally, users can directly share their creations on the Vibes feed, send them to friends, or cross-post across Instagram and Facebook Stories and Reels.

Despite its ambitious vision, initial reactions to the announcement from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg have been mixed. Many users expressed skepticism, with some comments reflecting a general disinterest in AI-generated media, such as “gang nobody wants this” and “What….?”

As Meta ventures further into the realm of AI, it faces scrutiny amid widespread concerns from other platforms like YouTube, which are tightening controls on low-quality AI content. Earlier this year, Meta emphasized its commitment to genuine storytelling, making the launch of Vibes seem contradictory to its prior messaging. Nevertheless, Meta claims that media generation within the Meta AI app has surged more than tenfold since its debut, highlighting a growing appetite for AI-driven content despite the challenges ahead.
