Pinterest is set to enhance user experience with the introduction of AI-powered features designed to personalize its boards. Announced on Monday, the new updates focus on creating tailored content that resonates with individual user preferences, including an innovative collage feature named “Styled for You.” This feature allows users to blend various clothing and accessories from saved fashion Pins to create customized outfits.
Additionally, Pinterest is testing a feature called “Boards Made for You,” which curates a selection of boards that combine editorial highlights and AI-driven recommendations. These boards will provide users with weekly outfit inspirations and trending styles, conveniently displayed in their home feeds and inboxes.
Currently, Pinterest is rolling out these AI enhancements as part of a trial in the U.S. and Canada, with plans to expand in the upcoming months. The company’s initiative aims to redefine Pinterest boards from simple organizational tools to dynamic sources for exploring and shopping, aligning with its vision to become an “AI-enabled shopping assistant,” as mentioned during the CEO’s second-quarter earnings call. Previously, Pinterest has incorporated AI for personalized recommendations and visual search capabilities.
Despite embracing these new AI functionalities, Pinterest remains cautious about AI-generated content. In April, the platform announced measures to label AI-modified images and empower users to filter out AI-generated Pins from their feeds.
Alongside these innovations, Pinterest plans to introduce new tabs that categorize Pins accessed through user profiles. The “Make It Yours” tab will suggest fashion and home decor items based on saved Pins, while the “More Ideas” tab will present related content in categories such as beauty, recipes, and art. An “All Saves” tab will streamline access to all previously saved Pins, enhancing the overall user experience.
As Pinterest strives to integrate advanced AI features, it aims to provide users with greater personalization and engagement, reinforcing its position in the competitive landscape of social media and shopping platforms.
